The rapid advancement in our knowledge of the pathophysiology and pharmacology of acute and chronic pain necessitates an on-going update of this drug handbook.
For this edition of Sota Omoigui's Pain Drug Handbook, information on all drugs has been updated and numerous drugs from diverse classes have been added. These include alendronate, botulinum toxin, celecoxib, cosyntropin, dextromethorphan, dihydroergotamine, gabapentin, leflunomide, nabumetone, pamidronate, pentosan polysulfate sodium, ropivacaine, sertraline and tramadol. There is also a section on compounded topical medications, which is another exciting frontier in our battle to conquer pain. I express my gratitude to Neil Badlani R.Ph and Wally Saika Pharm.D at B& B Pharmacy in Bellflower, California. They were an excellent resource in compiling this section.
Special thanks to the consulting editors for their meticulous and professional work. I wish to thank my family including my parents Daniel and Grace and my siblings Nowa, Ifueko, Eghosa and Nosa - for their love and support. Finally, I thank my publisher James Kroschell of Blackwell Scientific Publishers for his support and assistance. Every day, we are able to help more patients with new knowledge and insight. This book will be a valuable resource to all healthcare providers who will inevitably encounter a patient with pain.
